Lynn Sanders is a Louisiana-based abstract artist known for paintings that evoke a sense of organic fluidity and movement. Working in mixed media, she builds translucent layers of color that interact in ways that feel both spontaneous and intentional. Her compositions are defined by overlapping, amorphous forms, deep hues, and unexpected bursts of muted color, creating works that continually shift as the eye moves across the surface.
After leaving the business world more than twenty years ago to pursue a career in the visual arts, Sanders has developed a practice that has garnered both private and corporate collectors across the country. Her work can be found in collections including the State of New Mexico, Nordstrom, Hilton, Marriott, and The Ritz-Carlton, among others. Her paintings have also been featured in Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, Southern Living, New England Home, and Veranda, as well as in publications by designers Tara Shaw and Paloma Contreras.
My painting process is raw, instinctive, and deeply connected to emotion. Each piece takes shape in a whirlwind of movement, its speed and intensity reflecting my inner state. I begin with a custom tool of my own design, layering hand-mixed colors and mediums onto the canvas in a way that feels both spontaneous and deliberate.
Working primarily with acrylics and ink, I embrace chemical reactions that introduce unexpected depth and texture. My unique tool allows me to work at a pace that matches my restless energy, creating deep, saturated tones interwoven with translucent layers—often described as the “tissue paper effect.” Through years of refining this process, I’ve developed an innate understanding of the precise pressure and pigment balance needed to achieve my signature aesthetic.
Guided by process and color rather than rigid concepts, my work invites viewers to engage with the raw movement and layered complexity of my technique. Each piece speaks in a visual language uniquely my own—one born of intuition, experimentation, and a fearless embrace of the unknown.
